What's with this little stick, and why would I keep it next to my porch door?
It's for clearing my path in the mornings, to make sure that I don't accidentally walk through an unseen spider's web! Very important around here!

We've got spidery sticks just like yours at either end of our front path. The path itself is only four metres long and one metre wide, and it's lined with hedges on both sides. Lots of spiders soon learn that it's a bad place to build a web, but there's always a slow-learner that just persists and persists and persists. Like you, those sticks have prevented a lot of screams!
